Wildlife Risk Management for High Risk Environments

Wildlife Safety Course ( Bears, Cougars , Ungulates)

This comprehensive 6 hour course provides advanced training on habituated, defensive, and predatory wildlife. Its primary objective is to develop instinctive, muscle-memory responses during wildlife encounters, where immediate action is critical.

Designed to support worker safety compliance, incident prevention, and due diligence, the course also promotes defensible decision-making following an incident.

The program is delivered in three phases:

  • Session 1: Foundations of wildlife biology, behaviour, and species-specific characteristics.
  • Session 2: Practical, scenario-based bear spray training conducted in a wooded environment. Participants learn safe retreat techniques, proper deployment of inert bear spray, and effective target placement under pressure.
  • Session 3: Interactive, scenario-driven exercises based on real wildlife encounters. Participants apply retreat and response strategies in dynamic simulations, including a comparison of bear spray and firearm use.

Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on building confidence, leadership, and teamwork. Participants gain hands-on experience that prepares them to respond effectively when it matters most.

A certificate of completion is provided upon successful participation.

Unlike traditional training that focuses solely on theory, this course immerses participants in realistic situations—demonstrating not only what to do, but how to recover when things go wrong.
