The Canadian Bear Safety Authority (CBSA) provides guidance and support to individuals and families during the difficult aftermath of serious wildlife incidents.
In cases involving human-wildlife conflict resulting in injury or fatality, agencies such as Fish and Wildlife Officers, Conservation Officers, and the RCMP are required to conduct a formal investigation. These investigations are carried out with a focus on professionalism, thorough evidence collection, public safety, and ensuring that the appropriate determination is made regarding the species involved and the contributing factors leading to the incident.
CBSA offers support to survivors and families by helping them understand the investigative process and what to expect during this time. We also act as a liaison, when appropriate, between families and investigative authorities to facilitate communication and provide clarity during what is often a highly stressful and emotional period.
In addition, CBSA can assist in connecting individuals and families with qualified mental health professionals, both during and after the incident, to support coping, recovery, and the process of finding closure.
